walls of sound
illuminating spaces with sound

„The real evolution in musical space may be that space becomes a real-time artistic activity, where sound and space act together to create music.“ (B. Blesser)
Walls of Sound begins in 2023 with the goal of incorporating the sounds created by architectural spaces into musical composition. More precisely, and thanks to specific techniques of fragmentation and spatialisation, it aims to use spaces with high levels of reverberation, such as churches or chapels, to achieve the realisation of the so-called „diffuse sound fields“. Experiencing diffuse sound fields means perceiving a sound that reaches us from all directions equally. This acoustic experience evokes the unlimited, the infinite, and favours the experience of plenitude: our whole being merges into a single sensation in which the distinction between time and space, the one and the whole, disappears.
Walls of Sound aims to find reverberant spaces in emblematic architectural buildings, especially those that have a spiritual, cultural or historical significance with a particular community, so that they can be rediscovered through a sound intervention created specifically for them.
Walls of Sound invites the contemplation of a sound event created by the space at the very moment it is heard.
