walls of sound illuminating spaces with sound „I believe that inner architectural spaces are the natural ecosystems most conducive to the life of sound. In enclosed spaces, especially those with a lot of reverberation, sound lives longer while reproducing itself by millions. The space becomes an instrument, and the music a means for the emitted…

  • fifth session: june 3 and 4

Finally I have resumed the work in the ossuary of Perschen after the long winter. It was a great pleasure to return to this sacred space, to contemplate again the magnificent frescoes and to experience the sonorities of the Illuminations. This was the first of four sessions that I will be conducting during the months…

  • fourth session: november 7 and 8

During these two days, I have revised and improved the permanences made during the first session in October, especially two of them that seemed too static. I have added more movement to the sound fragments, i.e. more space-sound density variations, and I have minimized the envelopes to add more relief. Due to the high amount…

  • third session: october 24 and 25

During these two days three new „illuminations“ were composed and one of those composed in the previous session was revised and improved. Although it is too early to say that the nine illuminations are good enough to be definitive, an effort has been made to ensure that each has specific…

On 26 and 27 September, the sound illumination of the Romanesque ossuary in Perschen finally began. During these two days, numerous tests were carried out to experiment the acoustic response of the space and the possiblity to reach the so called „diffuse sound fields“. The result of these tests, which consisted of spreading sound fragments…

  • Charnel house in Perschen

A sonic illumination project of the Romanesque charnel house in Perschen, Bavaria, is scheduled to begin in September 2023. It involves multiple sound tests to determine an optimal sound composition that enhances the location’s spiritual ambience. Initial impressions suggest that the sound intervention significantly intensifies contemplation of the religious images within the space.
