Sound Illuminations for the Pilgrim’s Route Camino de Santiago

Description of the project:
This project aims to bring the twelve electroacoustic pieces called “Sound Illuminations” created in the ossuary of Perschen (Germany) on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It is a non-profit initiative by the composer Joan Riera Robusté that consists of an itinerant sound intervention that will use hermitages, churches or monasteries along the Camino de Santiago, on its way through Germany, France and Spain.
The main characteristic of these pieces is that they incorporate the reverberation created by the architectural space to achieve, thanks also to specific sound fragmentation techniques and its spatialization through eight loudspeakers, the so-called “diffuse sound spaces”. This allows to achieve what the composer calls “contextual music”, that is, music linked to a specific acoustic context.
This project is not only an artistic-musical proposal, since it uses a carriage and a mule to transport the musical material necessary for the presentations, incorporating a facet of “performance” or itinerant artistic action. This means of transportation is fundamental in this project, as it enables us to accompany the pilgrims on their journey, sharing with them the spiritual character of the Camino.
This project is open to everybody. Come and join us!
